Determination of 17 Mycotoxins in Cereals and Cereal Based . Mycotoxins are potentially toxic secondary metabolites produced by different species of fungi. The main relevant species occurring on cereals are Penicillium sp., Fusarium sp. and Aspergillus sp. The fungal contamination can either occur on the field or during storage.

24-03-2017· 1. Introduction. Mycotoxins are secondary fungi metabolites that can contaminate a wide range of foods , and may lead to the development of adverse effects, both in humans and animals , .The most common classes of mycotoxins are aflatoxins, trichothecenes, especially deoxinivalenol, fumonisins, zearalenone and ochratoxin A, produced mainly by the genera Aspergillus, Penicillium …
The procedure enables the quantitative LC-MS/MS determination of regulated mycotoxins (OTA, AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, AFG2, AFM1, DON, ZEN, FB1, FB2, and T-2 and HT-2 toxins) in a broad range of food items including cereals and cereal based baby foods (infant cereals, biscuits), spices, nuts, coffee, tea, cocoa, vegetable oils, dried fruits, infant formula, dairy products, feed/pet food, etc.
The mean recovery values were 77-104% for different concentrations of AFs, OTA and ZEA in spiked cereal samples. Both intra- and inter-day accuracy and precision were within acceptable limits. This method was successfully applied for the simultaneous determination of mycotoxins for 60 cereal samples collected from Malaysian markets.

26-01-2009· 2. Determination of mycotoxins. Most mycotoxins are chemically stable so they tend to survive storage and processing, and even when cooked at quite high temperatures such as those reached during baking bread or breakfast cereal production.

31-05-2011· Proposed maximum limits for other cereal-based foods range up to 7 μg kg −1 for derived cereal products (wheat bran) (Health Canada – Bureau of Chemical Safety 2009). This paper focuses on the issue of sampling, including general aspects and different sampling procedures for cereals and cereal-based foods for the determination of OTA.
A new method for the simultaneous quantification of 12 mycotoxins was developed and optimized using reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) with a photodiode array (PDA) and fluorescence detector (FLD), a photochemical reactor for enhanced detection (PHRED) and post-column derivatization. The mycotoxins included aflatoxins (AFB1, AFB2, AFG1, and AFG2), ochratoxin A …
